In Pictures: Kinetica Art Fair

With a day that started off with a talk from East London collective ‘Robots and Avatars‘ where we learned about the Uncanny Valley, EmotionA.I, pogoing robots and the sheer scope of what the future holds for our virtual selves and the mechanical company we’ll be keeping, we were truly set for the awe inspiring digital wizardry ahead.

Such a collection of geek artists and mad professors in one place is quite a mind-blowing affair and it’s not everyday you get to play big bang acoustics on a large musical instrument called The Hydro-Acoustic Big Bang Filter nor indeed sit for a robot as it does a pencil drawing of your face. Along with special performances and a cafe, many hours will pass before you re-emerge from this giant concrete bunker.

Many of the exhibitors are traditional artists who have naturally turned to technology in advancement of their creative ideas and some particular highlights included the Homos Luminosos (Holographic Light Sculptures) by Rosaline De Thelin and Xray art by Hugh Turvey. One little fella that caught our eye was BeerBot who, once in receipt of a cup, would fill it with beer for you – we’ll be watching for developments very closely…
